What scares you?

It’s been many years since I have written a blog post!

Maybe it’s binge watching the “The Bold Type” on Hulu that inspired me to sit down and put my thoughts on paper.

Not sure what’s behind this sudden urge to write, but here’s what’s consuming my mind today.  It’s the topic of fear and the situations or experiences that cause that blood pressure to rise or heart beat to race.

I signed up for a Beginner Improv class to try something way outside of my comfort zone.  I’m an empty nester now which means more free time in the evenings for new experiences.

After our 8th class, we had a showcase where we had the opportunity to get on stage and show off what we learned.

I invited my family and friends to see what I had been doing every Tuesday night from 6:30 to 8:30pm the past two weeks.

They were gracious enough to make time to attend this event.

On the car ride to the show case, one of my girlfriend’s asked me, “Are you nervous?”

I thought about it for a second.  I took a mental scan of my body from head to toe and although I really thought I should be nervous, my body didn’t show any signs of anxiety or discomfort.

Fast forward exactly one week.

I’m 24 hours away from my first colonoscopy, the procedure that says welcome to being 50.

Guess what? I’m nervous!  I can feel it.

Maybe it’s the idea of fasting.  This shouldn’t be a big deal.  I should have fasted every year on Yom Kippur for the past 50 years.  But I admit, I always cheated. I couldn’t make it a day without eating.

It’s now noon, I’m just four hours away from the delicious combo of Miralax and Gatorade.

Trying to settle my nerves by writing about it.  Who would have thought prepping for a colonoscopy would cause more discomfort than getting on stage in front of a room full of people without a script!

I can do this!!!!
